Mr. Armstrong graduated from Pepperdine College (now Pepperdine University) in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and a double minor in English and Journalism.He later completed his Master's Degree in Teaching at Lewis & Clark College of Portland, Oregon.
This is Mr. Armstrong's 41th year of teaching and his 30th at Pioneer Middle School. In addition to physical education, Mr. Armstrong has taught high school and junior high English as well as high school journalism and math. In 1969 he began his teaching career at an inner-city junior high school in Los Angeles, California, where he taught for four years. He moved to Dunsmuir High School in northern California; then on to Oregon City, Oregon, and taught at Gardner Junior High and Oregon City High School.
Coaching has been a large part of Mr. Armstrong's extra-curricular duties. He has coached high school, junior high, and middle school football and basketball. In addition, he coached high school golf for 6 years in Oregon and currently coaches high school (14 years) and middle school tennis (18 years).
Mr. Armstrong has been married to his wife Cheryl for 43 years and has three adult daughters and six grandchildren. His hobbies include reading historical works, especially biographies, fishing, tennis, and golf.
