Band 7 & 8

Welcome to the Band 7 & 8 web page!

Required Book: Essential Elements 2000- Book 2 (Hal Leonard, Publishers).  It is the responsibility of parents and students to purchase the method book.  It is available at Wenatchee’s local music stores. Another method book, Foundations for Superior Performance by Richard Williams & Jeff King, is provided to students by the band program.

The prerequisite for participation in Band 7 & 8 is at least one year of experience, either in Band 6, a similar school program, by having taken private lessons and/or by successful audition with the band director.  Students will learn the fundamentals of musicianship, appropriate concert etiquette,  and participate in a wide variety of musical styles.

Each student is required to participate in the scheduled concerts, demonstrating showmanship, discipline, performance skills and employing appropriate concert etiquette.  In addition, it is an expectation for students to participate as a band member in the annual North Central Washington Music Educators’ Association Large Group contest and as part of the Marching Band in the scheduled parades.  Other NCWMEA events, such as Junior Honor Band and Solo & Small Ensemble, are optional (according to ability and student interest).

The Pioneer Middle School Band program has in its inventory a number of instruments that students can borrow to use.  However, the priority for usage is for those students who are financially disadvantaged and for beginning band students in the 6th grade.  The expectation is that students are interested enough to either purchase or rent their own instruments at this level of involvement in band, especially flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets and trombones.

This class is considered a FULL YEAR COMMITMENT. In this way we build the best band program possible.  For more information, please click on the band syllabus in the left-hand menu.
