Orchestra 7 & 8

Welcome to the Orchestra 7 & 8 web page!

Required Book: Essential Technique 2000 for Strings- Book 3 by Michael Allen, Robert Gillespie & Pamela Hayes (Publisher: Hal Leonard).  It is the student's responsibility to purchase the method book and it is available in Wenatchee’s local music stores.

Grade 7 & 8 Orchestra meets daily.  The level of experience of students participating in this group is typically three to fours years of training. The prerequisite for entry into Orchestra 7 & 8 is to have successfully participated in Orchestra 6.   If a student has not participated in Orchestra 6, she/he can demonstrate the equivalent experience by having taken private lessons and/or by successful audition with the orchestra director.  Students will learn the fundamentals of musicianship, appropriate concert etiquette,  and participate in a wide variety of musical styles.

Each student is required to participate in the scheduled concerts, demonstrating showmanship, discipline, performance skills and employing appropriate concert etiquette.  In addition, the orchestra participates annually in the North Central Washington Music Educators’ Association Large Group contest.  Other NCWMEA events, such as Solo & Small Ensemble Contest, are optional (according to ability and student interest).

The Pioneer Middle School Orchestra program has in its inventory a number of instruments that students can borrow to use.  However, the priority for usage is for those students who are financially disadvantaged and students in the 6th grade.  The expectation is that students are interested enough to either purchase or rent their own instruments at this level of involvement in orchestra.

This class is considered a FULL YEAR COMMITMENT. In this way we build the best orchestra program possible.  For more information, please click on the band syllabus in the left-hand menu.
