Several  times I have parents tell me that their kids are telling them that there's no homework or that it was done in school. If this happens too often you should look into it. Here are my suggestions:

1. Come to the school's Open House.  During this time the teachers set up small presentations that will include homework and classroom expectations.

2.  Look in the student planner and verify if there is homework daily.

3. Get all the Teachers names.  You may call the school and ask for the names or ask for a copy of your student schedule.

4. Go the Staff tap on the top part of this web site and e-mail the teachers to verify the information about the homework.

5.  Set up a plan with the teacher to make the student get teacher initials on the planer on the area that they write down their homework.  If they do not have homework they can initial that too.

6.  Arrange a meeting with the Teachers or with at least one of the Teachers.

7.  Call teachers.

8.  Call the Family Advocate, if you are having a hard time contacting the teachers or if you have a language or a schedule barrier.  The family Advocate can support your efforts.

9. Make sure that you get and read all progress reports.  It will tell you how many missing assignments they had.

10.  Learn how to look up the homework on line.  Teachers sometimes have on line homework display.  Or some have a homework hot line.
